Top Black Canadian Weed Change-Makers

Since legalization nearly two-and-a-half years ago, the recreational cannabis space in Canada has experienced both highs and lows.

As most of the brands and industry leaders we’ve come to know and love are settling in for the long haul, there is still an unspoken issue about the space: it is overwhelmingly white.

A recent report found that just 1% of people in C-suite positions in Canada’s cannabis sector are Black, 84% are white, and 86% of those are men. This lack of diversity is concerning and needs to be addressed.

Other minorities who are underrepresented include those from South Asia (6%), East and Southeast Asia (3%), Indigenous peoples (2%), the Arab world (2%) and Latin America (1%).

There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that BIPOC communities are more equally represented in the cannabis industry, but the Black business leaders who have chosen to enter the industry are having a significant impact.

There are a number of Black Canadian change-makers who are making a significant impact. Here are four of them that you should be aware of.
