The language around cannabis is constantly evolving, and we need to be mindful of the words we use to describe it. Calling it “weed” or “marijuana” is not intended to be negative, but rather to reflect the changing landscape around this substance.
What cannabis strains were you excited about this year?
As a judge for the Canadian Hempfest Cannabis Cup this year, I was thrilled to see the winner in the Highest THC Flower category test at an astonishing 35% THC. This strain, called Passion Fruit, is so potent and rich in trichomes and cannabinoids that it had to be sent to a second lab for confirmation. It is truly a passion of mine!

They are so supportive of me and my work, and I am inspired to keep going when I see how closely they are watching me. We all draw strength from each other, and I am so proud of them both.
What were the challenges you faced in 2019?
How trite would it be for me to say that I needed to find a balance this year? There were times when I felt completely overwhelmed by everything I had to do for work and advocacy.
