Female Leaders In The Weed Industry

The lack of diversity in today’s struggling industries is a major contributing factor to their difficulties. Emotional intelligence and leadership strategies are sorely lacking, and this lack of diversity is a major contributing factor. By diversifying their perspectives, these industries can begin to turn things around.
What is it like working in the Canadian cannabis industry, according to female leaders in the field? We asked six of them to weigh in.

Melinda Rombouts

Melinda Rombouts is a highly successful businesswoman who has achieved great things in her career. Prior to her work in the cannabis industry, she was a plant biologist and greenhouse owner. She has always been a strong advocate for women’s rights, and her company Eve & Co is dedicated to helping women feel empowered and confident.
I believe that our high proportion of female employees is due to both female leadership and the fact that women feel valued and have equal opportunities at our company.
The cannabis industry is disproportionately male-dominated, largely due to its origins in male-dominated industries like mining, finance, and horticulture. This sexist legacy persists today and negatively impacts the public perception of cannabis.
The majority of employees at licensed businesses across Canada are male.
Our board is majority female, which is more than most of our supervisors and management. Having female leadership is important, and we are almost the opposite of the norm, which is 70% male employees.
Our high proportion of female employees is due in part to female leadership, but also to the fact that we are an organization where women are valued and have equal opportunities for advancement. I believe this is why we see more women applying to work here, knowing that they will be given a fair chance to succeed.

Rachel Colic

Current role: Brand Strategist and founder of Boss Ladies of Cannabis, a database of female cannabis executives.
Her life before cannabis: She ran her company for 15 years, focusing on cannabis for the past five years. Rachel currently travels the world, consulting cannabis for international companies.
Cannabis presents a unique challenge in the legal marketplace, but it is not an insurmountable problem. The illicit market for cannabis is thriving, which demonstrates that there is a demand for the product. With the right approach, the legal cannabis market can compete with the illicit market and provide a safe, regulated product.
Why are there no women on that panel/in your team/on your board? The resounding answer I would usually get is that they couldn’t find one.
There are lots of women who want to start their own companies, but the legal industry is dominated by older white men. This makes it difficult for women to get the funding they need to get their businesses off the ground.
It can be very frustrating for me to find myself in a position where I am the only woman in a boardroom or on a team. This is not a problem that is unique to the cannabis industry.

The Boss Ladies of Cannabis is a group of powerful women who are knowledgeable about the cannabis industry and are great leaders. This group was created to inspire other women to pursue their dreams and be successful in the cannabis industry.
The question of why there were no women on a particular panel, team, or board was met with the response that the organizers couldn’t find any qualified women. This is absurd, given the many women working in the cannabis industry who have the necessary expertise.

Renee Gagnon

Renee Gagnon is the CEO and founder of Hollyweed North Cannabis Inc., based in Victoria. She has 20 years of experience in technology and software startups, covering fields such as security software and consumer apps for mobile devices. After encountering discrimination as a woman in the business world, she decided to enter the cannabis industry.
We were one of the first cannabis companies to go public, and we quickly became successful, making over a billion dollars within two years. However, everything changed when I transitioned into my new role.
I had to come out as a gay man to the world, which was previously unaware of my sexual orientation. This was a difficult decision to make, as I knew it would change how I was perceived by my colleagues in the finance community. However, I felt it was important to be honest about who I am.
It was a horrible thing when I came out on Facebook.People assumed that because I was now a woman, I was unfundable and my life would be radically different from that point forward. It was a stark wake up call that showed how much society still needs to change in terms of how it views and treats women.
The cannabis industry has been plagued by a lack of profitability, poor management, and unethical practices. However, one of the most glaring problems is the lack of female leadership. This is a problem that must be fixed by consciously funding female-led businesses.
I used to get angry about things, but now I’m called bitter. It’s the same feeling inside, but now I’m bitter.
Venture capitalists who do not invest in women should not be allowed to invest at all.
The California Pension Fund, one of the largest in the country, now requires companies it invests in to have board parity (equal representation of men and women). This is a major shift, and it’s likely that other pension funds will soon follow suit. This means that companies in the cannabis industry will need to have female board members and executives in order to attract investment.

As the president of the Clinical Research Association of Canada and a cannabis educator at The Michener Institute of Education at UHN, Sabrina Ramkellawan is a leading expert on cannabis research and its implications for healthcare. A former nurse, she has devoted her career to understanding the potential of cannabis for treating a variety of conditions.
The cannabis industry is still very much male-dominated, with few women in executive positions. This can make it difficult for women to succeed in the industry, as the focus is often on short-term gain rather than long-term vision.
The cannabis industry is sorely lacking in women leaders. A lot of cannabis companies try to make a show of having female executives, but the reality is that there are still not enough women in positions of power.
Consulting can be challenging at times, but it can also be very rewarding. You have the opportunity to really make a difference and have a impact on the direction of research projects. With a long-term perspective, you can really make a difference in the field.
I’ve found that some guys tend to boast about themselves more in the workplace. They’re always talking about how great they are. Me, I’m more honest about what I can and can’t do. I get the job done, but I’m realistic about it. Whereas I’ve worked with guys who talk a big game but don’t actually do anything. How do these people get these roles?
As the industry continues to grow, companies are increasingly thinking about having women on their board. However, I believe that the pressure to do so will have to come from outside sources – namely, people who are unwilling to spend their money with companies that lack diversity on their board and management team. By taking this stand, we can send a powerful message that diversity is important and that companies must do better in this area.
Cannabis companies are under increasing pressure to show results and maturity at the leadership level in order to survive. This is especially true as opportunities become more globalized. Boards of directors are likely to push for better leadership in order to improve the chances of success.
