Canada Might Have The First Airport Dispensary

An airport in Prince George, British Columbia could soon have a cannabis retail shop, making it the first airport in the world to have such a store. This would be a convenient and safe place for travelers to purchase cannabis.

Copilot, a cannabis retailer, has met all the regulatory requirements set by Transport Canada and the Province of B.C. and is now applying for a city license to open its doors for business.

The city council has approved the first two readings of a bylaw that would allow cannabis sales at the airport. This change would bring the airport in line with the city’s existing zoning regulations for cannabis sales.

The council unanimously approved Copilot’s application with little discussion. However, the application must undergo a third reading and a public hearing before the council makes a final decision. A date for these events has not yet been announced.

The cannabis retail store would be a great option for those travelling within Canada, as travellers are allowed to bring up to 30 grams of cannabis on domestic flights as long as they are of legal age. This would be a convenient and easy way to access cannabis while travelling.

The store would not be able to legally cater to those travelling abroad with cannabis, as it is illegal to carry cannabis across federal borders. However, the Copilot store would be located in a non-secure area of the airport terminal, making it accessible to anyone who is in the airport, even if they are not travelling.

Reaching Consumers Where They Are

Reaching consumers where they are is an effective way to connect with them. By engaging with them on their own terms, you can create a lasting connection that will encourage them to keep coming back.

The rapid increase in the number of licensed cannabis dispensaries in Ontario is causing some concern among owners who fear they may not be able to compete.

“The whole industry completely misunderstood what was going to happen because they thought the only hurdle was legalization, and once we were legalized, people would buy,” said McNeish, who added that locating businesses in new locations like airports and malls could Achieve easier access to customers.

“For users, it can be much more convenient,” McNeish said.

As the retail market for recreational cannabis becomes more crowded, companies like Copilot are looking for new ways to reach consumers. By locating themselves in novel locations, they hope to stand out from the competition and attract more customers.

Our goal has always been to create a retail experience that is unique and stands out from any other store. Ritz told the Canadian Press last week that we have achieved this goal.

Canadian law permits air travelers to carry up to 30 grams of pot or the equivalent in other cannabis products on domestic flights. In order to accommodate travelers, many airports have established areas where the consumption of cannabis is permitted.

Ritz pointed out that one in four Canadians have already traveled with cannabis, making it clear that this is a popular and growing trend.

Ritz and Howard explained to the Prince George City Council that the Copilot staff will check customers’ boarding passes to ensure that they are booked on a domestic flight. The business will not sell cannabis to international travelers or those employed by the airport or airlines. They believe that the airport in central British Columbia is the ideal location to launch Copilot.

We chose to launch our business in Prince George because it has a large enough airport to provide enough customer traffic and flights to test our business model, but it’s small enough to have a community feel. We didn’t want our store to be just another retail outlet in a sea of other stores, and we didn’t want passengers to feel overwhelmed by our new concept.

“If all goes according to plan, we will be opening our first cannabis retail store here in Prince George’s airport this summer,” Ritz said.

Copilot was founded by two classmates at Dartmouth College, Owen Ritz and Reed Horton. The two were also teammates on the college’s track team, and they traveled to various meets together. The company provides a service that helps people plan their travel itineraries.

While many people rely on cannabis to ease travel-related stress, it is not available in airports, even in jurisdictions where its consumption is legal. This can be inconvenient and stressful for travelers.

Their realization that there was a need for their business prompted them to take action. “We started reaching out to airports in February 2020 and got some really good feedback,” Ritz says.

He said that the airport in Prince George appealed to them because it is small and has a community feel. He said that the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) was very enthusiastic and that made them stand out from the other options.

Prince George Airport Authority receptive

The Prince George Airport Authority is receptive to new ideas and takes a proactive approach to problem-solving. We are confident in our ability to provide excellent service to our community and are committed to maintaining a high standard of operations.

We are excited to be working with Copilot to provide an expanded range of services for our passengers. This is a great opportunity for the company and our local community.

Duke believes that cannabis stores will become common in Canadian airports in the coming years. He argues that this is a legal enterprise in Canada and that, as long as responsible consumption is encouraged, there will be little or no impact on travellers.

However, not everyone is on board with the plan. The RCMP has raised concerns that having a cannabis store at the airport could negatively impact the work of staff at the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA), who are responsible for security screening and making sure that all luggage meets the requirements for domestic flights.

The RCMP has expressed concern that connecting international flights at land borders where cannabis is not legal could pose problems.

Despite being relatively new to the industry, Ritz and Horton are optimistic about Copilot’s prospects. “Our strong suit is that we are relatively new to the industry,” Horton says.

He noted that Copilot has experienced investors and advisers who can help them navigate the industry. Their lead investor is Marc Lustig, who has extensive experience in the cannabis industry.

Owen and I are passionate about the idea of cannabis retail stores being located in airports across Canada and the United States. We believe in the concept and feel that it is a great way to provide access to this important medicinal plant to many people who need it.
